Until now, we have primarily used our aquaponics calculator internally, especially as part of feasibility studies for aquaponics projects. In its early stages, it did not even have its own input interface, but it was already developed with a clear goal in mind: to make the technical, biological, and economic relationships within such systems visible in a structured way.
For quite some time, we had wanted to make this application accessible to a wider audience. The calculator is not only intended to show the proportions and interdependencies within an aquaponics facility. It is also meant to demonstrate that, under suitable conditions, aquaponics is no longer just biologically and technically interesting. With the right combination of scale, greenhouse type, and operating mode, it can already be highly economical today.
That said, the online calculator we have now published does not yet fully reflect the application we use internally on a daily basis. Our core application is still significantly more extensive and developed in greater depth in several respects. However, with this first version of the web application, we already want to provide a tool that can offer valuable initial guidance to interested users.
The calculator will be expanded continuously in the coming stages. We are already working on transferring additional functions from our core application into the online version and on gradually developing the web application further.
We are now curious to see how the calculator will be used. At the same time, we naturally hope that our web application will not immediately be overwhelmed by bots. If it becomes clear that further protective measures are needed, we will continue to develop the calculator accordingly and, if necessary, equip it with additional access restrictions or a login.
